Solopreneurs, What’s Your Superpower?

Definition. { superpower: noun abilities beyond those of normal human beings}
What’s your superpower? A friend of mine asked me that question recently, and my immediate answer was: “I have a gift for asking important questions.” As I thought longer, I recognized that I have another superpower: I am a great listener.
So what did this introspection do for me and—most importantly—why should you unmask your superpower?
I thought deeply about my superpowers (while mowing the lawn) and realized that being able to ask great questions and being able to listen well are superb qualities for me to possess as a coach. Some coaches might be terrific questioners or fine listeners, but how many coaches are gifted at both? So—feeling powerful—I built my superpowers into the Solopreneur Coaching page on my Web site:
When you hire me, I will ask you the right questions, the tough questions, the questions that will help you make the best decisions for not only your business, but your solopreneur life…
When you speak, I listen. I prefer listening to talking. I would rather hear your voice than mine. I listen because it’s through listening that I learn. So why should you care that I can listen? Because the ability to listen is the most important quality a coach can possess. It’s how I learn about you. It’s how I become a better coach. It’s how I help you fulfill your promise as a solopreneur.
Back to the Original Question
So what is your superpower? How will your superpower benefit other people? How will other people’s lives be changed because of your superpower? Take the time to answer those questions. The process will:
1. Clarify what makes you special
2. Clarify what gives you power
3. Add to your confidence
4. Help you differentiate your skills and services
5. Help you market your small business
6. Enrich your solopreneur life
To boil down those six points, finding your superpower will help you define your unique selling proposition.
