Solopreneur Mentors

The Best Solopreneur Mentors Are The Ones You Can Model

Modeling is the key to shortening the learning curve. The old saying “it takes 5 years to get a new business off the ground”, is certainly true, but there is a HACK to this timeline.

If you can model your Solopreneur business after someone who has already been there then you can save a ton of time, not to mention headaches.

When you search for something on the web, you will be amazed at the number of websites that come up that have little to nothing to do with what you searched for. Google and other search engines work hard to weed these out. But it can take time for them to figure out which ones are not relevant. The point is many of these blogs have no real purpose.

It doesn’t just happen with blogs. There are plenty of businesses that don’t seem to have a defined niche. They try to be all things to all people. While some businesses can get away with that (think Amazon.com), most would be much better served if they refined their focus and narrowed their niche.

It is not an easy task to come up with a niche for your business. Therefore, consider finding a mentor who can help.

While it is beyond the scope of this article to describe how to find a mentor, you can do some research to find one. Just be sure that you can get out of the arrangement if you feel they are not doing a good job for you.

A mentor should be able to help you define your business niche. They should be able to determine who your ideal customers are as well as show how to find your competitors. These are both extremely important components in coming up with a business niche.

Your mentor should also give you some guidance as to whether you should narrow your focus and specialize more. This can help reduce the amount of competition. As long as there are still enough customers that exist in that specialized niche, you may be on to a winning formula.

Your mentor should also help you come up with a plan or system on how to promote your business. A system that is both scalable and repeatable. If there are weak areas in the plan, they should be able to help you come up with alternatives.

So unless your business is already rocking, it can be a wise move to bring on a mentor. They have been through the process before and can keep you from making the same mistakes they made. This can streamline your business and help you to succeed much quicker than going about it in a trial-by-error manner.
